Challenge

A historic landmark established in 543, the Church of Saint Germain des Prés is Paris’s oldest religious structure. Its artwork – and its long and tumultuous history – are a reflection of French history, art and culture. Spared from destruction on numerous occasions, the Church of Saint-Germain des Prés has ceaselessly transformed itself, risen to meet every challenge. Unfortunately, it has also contended with the ravages of time. Its overall condition has deteriorated steadily throughout the centuries, and the church finds itself challenged yet again and in need once more.

The mission of the American Friends for the Preservation of Saint Germain des Prés, is to preserve this emblematic landmark and carry forth an ambitious restoration project.

The American Friends for the Preservation of Saint Germain des Prés had for objectives to:

  • Increase awareness of Saint Germain des Prés within the Franco-American community in the US
  • Identify, approach potential major donors (private sector, institutional, individuals)
  • Raise funds to support de renovation project
